Patrícia de Jesus Palma, Anabela Afonso, Luísa Salazar, Paulo Patrocínio Reis, Vanessa Nascimento, Ana Gonçalves, Dinis Faísca and Sara Fernandes are the new chroniclers of the blog place to the south. The idea is to continue thinking about the Algarve with «new and interesting people».

Gonçalo Duarte Gomes, one of the founders of Lugar ao Sul, explained to Sul Informação that it was the fact that there was “some lack of availability” and “pace” in the blog that led to this third makeover.

«We understand that the project makes sense to continue as it has generated interest. That's why we invited new people, people who think about the Algarve», he added.

These new names include, for example, the commissioner of the cultural program “365Algarve” (Anabela Afonso), the chairman of the board of directors of QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories (Sara Fernandes) or the pivot of CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer at the University of Algarve for matters of the sea (Ana Gonçalves).

Political quadrants or academic backgrounds were not criteria for choosing the new elements. "There is no criterion without being a little generational because we want to give a voice to people who normally don't hear themselves in opinion forums in the Algarve", explained Gonçalo Duarte Gomes to Sul Informação, partner newspaper of the “Lugar ao Sul” blog.

The former chroniclers included Pedro Pimpão, vice-president of the Loulé Council, Dália Paulo, municipal director of Loulé, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, and designer Joana Cabrita Martins. Names such as Bruno Inácio, Filomena Sintra, Cristiano Cabrita, André Botelheiro and Gonçalo Duarte Gomes remain.

Since it was born in 2016, Lugar ao Sul has published more than 300 articles, «showing that this region has thought and voice», he says. the note published on the blog announcing the new chroniclers.

«We feel, in our analysis, that Lugar ao Sul continues to have space. Since it was created, this idea of thinking about the Algarve, where the region is heading, has had, in our opinion, a greater dynamic», considered Gonçalo Duarte Gomes.

From these new elements, it is expected that they will come “to unsettle minds, stir waters and create ideas and new thoughts”.

The continuity of this citizenship project is due «more to the readers who assiduously make Lugar ao Sul a website with an unusual volume of visits for a platform of this kind – outside the big urban centers and far from the big centers of power – than to the authors who do it every day”, say the authors.

According to Gonçalo Duarte Gomes, there are weeks when pageviews they reach numbers between 7 and 10 thousand.

As for the arrival of the new chroniclers, the founder of Lugar a Sul concludes by saying that “we are curious and expectant”.
