Emergency plane lands at Beja Airport on third attempt

Airplane suffered "critical failure in navigation and flight control systems"

A plane in an “emergency” situation managed to land this Sunday in Beja on the third attempt, reports Público, citing a source from NAV (Portuguese Air Navigation).

It is an Embraer 190 from the airline Air Astana, from Kazakhstan, which took off from the Alverca runway, where it would be undergoing maintenance at the workshops of OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal. It had six crew on board.

Air Astana has already confirmed, in a statement, that the aircraft suffered "technical problems".

Also according to Público, the plane was accompanied by two F16 Air Force aircraft in its emergency landing on the runway in Alentejo.

The situation is said to have been caused by a "critical failure in the navigation and flight control systems".

The authorities even considered the possibility of the aircraft making a ditch in the Tagus River, a solution that was ruled out due to atmospheric conditions. The Navy came to be on guard.

The pilot managed to recover some of the instruments that had broken down, eventually landing in Beja.
