The Algarve maintains its eight Michelin-starred restaurants in 2019. The announcement of next year's edition of the renowned gastronomic guide was made this Wednesday, November 21, at a gala held at the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, in Lisbon.

The region continues to have two restaurants with two Michelin stars: Ocean, by chef Hans Neuner, in Vila Vita, located in Alporchinhos (Lagoa), and Vila Joya, in Albufeira, by chef Dieter Koschina.

As for the restaurants with a star in this gastronomic guide, there are a total of six in the Algarve: Bon Bon (Carvoeiro, chef Louis Anjos), Henrique Leis (Almancil, chef Henrique Leis), São Gabriel (Almancil, chef Leonel Pereira) and Willie's (Vilamoura, chef Willie Wurguer).

These are also joined by Vista, at Hotel Bela Vista (Praia da Rocha, Portimão), by chef João Oliveira, and Gusto, in Almancil, by Heinz Beck.

With these results, the Algarve is once again the region in the country with the highest concentration of restaurants in the Michelin Guide.

On the national scene, the highlight of the 2019 edition of the Michelin Guide goes to Belcanto, by José Avillez, which won the second star.

In total, there were three new restaurants earning one star: Midori, from Sintra, with Portuguese-Japanese cuisine, but also G Pousada, in Bragança, by the Gonçalves brothers, and A Cozinha, in Guimarães, by chef António Loureiro.

In this 2019 edition, none of the restaurants that had achieved a Michelin star in 2018 lost the distinction.
