Albufeira will support civic movement to help “Save + Lives”

Albufeira has an Automatic External Defibrillation Program (PDAE) since 2017

The Municipality of Albufeira will support the civic movement “Save + Lives” which “defends that cardiac resuscitation is everyone's right and that knowing how to resuscitate is everyone's duty”.

The municipality of Albufeira is, according to the Chamber, «a geographical area of the national territory with cardio-protected public places», which were installed within the scope of the «innovative program of External Automatic Defibrillation of a community nature» of this municipality, the “Autarquia + Segura”.

It was because of this project that the City Council of Albufeira was awarded, weeks ago, with the prize “Best Municipality to Live”, in the Social category.

The support that will come from the municipality will be, according to the mayor José Carlos Rolo, “a way of boosting and contributing to the achievement of the objectives set out in the “Save + Lives” manifesto, which generally involve alerting society to the the need for a country better prepared to respond to medical emergencies and situations of cardiorespiratory arrest and to ensure that one third of the population has training in basic life support and use of Automatic External Defibrillators».

The mayor from Albufeirense stressed that his municipality "is a pioneer in this matter" In October 2017 the municipality launched an Automatic External Defibrillation Program (PDAE), "destined to the community, with an innovative character in Portugal, as it provides DAE equipment installed in the public road, which are activated by remote call, mobilizing a chain of communication (situation alert) that involves proximity rescuers (civilians), Firefighters and the GNR military».

"In this way, the municipality of Albufeira is assumed as a geographical area of the national territory with cardio-protected public places, through the combination of AED equipment/proximity rescuers, which allows for earlier intervention in case of sudden illness due to cardiorespiratory arrest", he explained José Carlos Rolo.

The mayor of Albufeira added that «the commitment to save lives and contribute to the success of the Chain of Survival in Portugal, assumed by the municipality of Albufeira, is in line with and in line with the initiatives that the “Save + Lives Movement” has continued with regard to the empowerment of the community and the population in general, increasing the skills of immediate response to emergency situations related to cardiorespiratory arrest events».
