Marmelete promotes another Chestnut Party on All Saints' Day

Even though there are fewer and fewer chestnut trees in the mountains, the tradition of magusto dos Santos remains

Marmelete will host another Chestnut Festival on the Day of All Saints, on 1 November, organized by the Parish Council of this village in the municipality of Monchique.

The party starts at 15 pm, with the magusto, in which the chestnuts will be offered. An hour later, the Grupo de Cantares of the Confraria do Medronho «Os Monchiqueiros» performs.

At 17 pm, and taking advantage of the festive atmosphere, merit diplomas will be delivered to students in the parish. This is followed by the performance of ISMATUNA, the academic body of ISMAT.

For 18:30 pm, a performance by Sérgio Rossi is scheduled, ending the program with a ball animated by Fábio Lagarto, which begins at 19:30 pm, but indoors.

In addition to the chestnuts, there will be stalls with snacks and drinks from the region…such as medronho brandy and honeydew. The gastronomy highlights the pork on a skewer, the bread and the steaks.

According to Marta Martins, president of the Parish Council of Marmelete, «this initiative has attracted, from year to year, a growing number of visitors and aims to remember the traditional chestnut magustos, which, at this time, were taking place, using the gorse. bush that exists throughout the parish».
