Faro wants to strengthen its participation and broaden the involvement of technology companies in the municipality in the 2019 edition of #EUCodeWeek, a European initiative that aims to “celebrate programming, encouraging citizens to learn more about technology, connecting communities and organizations that can help in this process'.

To achieve this goal, the Chamber of Faro organized, on the 18th of October, at the Salão Nobre of the City Hall, a meeting with 20 representatives of technological companies in the municipality, which «allowed a productive sharing of experiences in the field of programming in a school context, where some specific initiatives were already identified. ongoing".

In the afternoon of the 19th, also included in this initiative, a class was held with 21 students from a 4th grade at Escola EB1/JI do Carmo.

According to the Chamber of Faro, the students «demonstrated an eagerness for learning in the technological domain and an exceptional capacity for the acquisition of skills in this area, having surpassed what was initially expected in an awareness-raising session, surpassing the defined goals».

The autarchy considers that, with exclusive recourse to technicians in the area of ​​Information Systems of the City Council of Faro, «opportunities for improvement were identified, as well as safe bets so that in 2019 this initiative can be extended to other classes and schools within the scope of the European Programming Week».

The Chamber is satisfied with the «high success» of the initiative and was «sure that in the 2019 edition of #EUCodeWeek the Municipality of Faro it will have a wide participation of companies'.

The next phase of the project involves identifying «themes and target audiences to be addressed, in conjunction with schools and other identified stakeholders, in order to encourage them to a proactive digital transformation that is attentive to the opportunities and challenges that this process also represents for residents and other local agents».
