The Câmara de Lagos will continue to support the training center of the Orquestra Juvenil de Guitarras do Algarve in Barão de São João, a project “which allows to provide musical training to children and young people residing in the innermost/rural area of the county”.
The conclusion of a cooperation agreement between the Chamber, the Union of Parishes of Bensafrim and Barão de São João and the Algarve Guitar Association (AGA) was approved at the Chamber Meeting and aims to «create the conditions for, through the joint intervention and under a partnership regime, continue the training center of this school in the county».
The Chamber undertakes “to ensure an annual financial contribution in the amount of 6.550 euros and, exceptionally, in its first year of validity, to allocate a subsidy in the amount of 3.683 euros, corresponding to the contribution of the “Global Encounter” and “Encontros” activities Interassociatives” and the expenses of the Polo's running and training in the period from September to December 2017”, revealed the local authority in Lacobrigense.
The Parish Union, on the other hand, "assumes an essential role of interlocutor with the beneficiary population and of provider of logistical support necessary for the project to function."
«With this decision, the municipality resumes support that dates back to 2004, when the first cooperation agreement was established for the creation of a center for this cultural training and dynamization project in the then parish of Barão de São João, which was in force. until 2011, having been interrupted only due to the budgetary difficulties existing at the time», framed the City of Lagos.
Despite this, «the project survived and continued to bring musical training to young people in the more rural/interior area of the municipality of Lagos and other Algarve municipalities, always counting on the logistical support of the Municipality and the Parish Council and, occasionally, with some financial support».
Last year, the Barão de São João center gave musical training to 21 children and young people, between 8 and 17 years old, integrated into three classes – A – Advanced, B – Intermediate and C – Initiation.
The support now approved is given taking into account «the interest and cultural value of the project, its pedagogical and artistic consistency and the positive impact generated in the enhancement of the territory and local agents, in the promotion of habits of sharing, coexistence and healthy living , as well as promoting artistic sensitivity, critical thinking, equal opportunities and inclusion».
