Loulé launches school year with textbooks and eleven new classrooms

Only in school manuals, activity sheets and other educational material to offer students were invested 810 thousand euros

In Loulé, the school year began with eleven new classrooms and the delivery of free textbooks to students. Monday, the first day of classes, was used by the municipal executive to tour the county's schools and help deliver books to students.

In 2018, students from 1st to 6th grade across the country were presented by the Ministry of Education with textbooks for all subjects. But the Loulé Council decided to complement this offer and give students activity books. «Dictionaries were also distributed to 2nd year students and grammars for the 3rd year», revealed the Loulé municipality.

The Chamber also offered school manuals and activity sheets “to all 3rd Cycle students in the public network (7th, 8th and 9th grades). The students also received «the comic book “Special Report – Adaptation to climate change in Portugal”, by Bruno Pinto (script), Penim Loureiro (drawing) and Quico Nogueira (color), dedicated to a matter of great importance for policy municipal councils in Loulé'.

In total, 7280 students from public schools in the municipality were covered by this initiative (3268 from the 1st cycle, 1723 from the 2nd cycle and 2289 from the 3rd cycle), totaling 60399 manuals/sheets delivered. This initiative meant an investment of more than 810 thousand euros by the Municipality.

The offer of books was not the only investment made by the municipality in this beginning of the school year.

Loulé City Council invested in the expansion of the school network «with the opening of 11 new classrooms: three 3rd Cycle classrooms at Escola EB 2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco, one 3rd Cycle classroom at Escola EB 2,3 Padre João Coelho Cabanita, two 3rd Cycle classrooms at Escola EB 2,3 S. Pedro do Mar, two 1st Cycle classrooms at Escola EB1/JI D. Francisca de Aragão, one 1st Cycle classroom at Escola EB1/JI da Abelheira, one classroom Kindergarten at EB da Estação, a Kindergarten room at EB de Alte.

«It is for the executive that I lead the success of our students as a priority, so we actively contribute, creating the necessary conditions for them to have equal opportunities and access. It is a strong commitment to our community”, underlined Vítor Aleixo, president of the Loulé Council, who also helped deliver the textbooks to students.
