The vast majority of visits were related to treatments and sutures

2067 people were assisted at the 31 Beach Health Posts spread along the Algarve coast in July. The vast majority of visits were related to treatments and sutures, but there were also some situations in which it was necessary to send people to other health units.

According to the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS), which organizes these units in partnership with the Portuguese Red Cross, “1159 were for treatments and sutures, 244 were due to spiderfish and insect bites, 394 for measurements blood pressure, 111 to administer injections and 126 to perform blood glucose tests, with 33 referrals to other health units being recorded during this period».

Of the citizens who used this service, 68% are not residents of the Algarve – 52% are from other regions of the country and 16% are foreigners.

«The Health Posts in Praia with the highest number of visits in July were those in Armação de Pera, Ilha da Armona and Ilha da Culatra», revealed the Algarve's ARS.

The same entity recalls that these units, which operate between 10:00 am and 19:00 pm, aim to “ensure nursing health care and respond to clinical situations that can be treated on site, also functioning as a point of clarification and triage, and, in case of need, refer the user to a more suitable health unit».

"Vakers can use nursing health care on the beach in various situations such as sunstroke, drop in blood pressure, spiderfish bites or small wounds/bruises to receive treatment on site, avoiding unnecessary travel to any health facility », added the ARS.
