Architects gather in the Algarve for a congress on “Architectural and Landscape Heritage”

Congress participation structure is new

The 15th Congress of Architects will take place on the 25th, 26th and 27th of October, at the Arade Congress Centre, in Lagoa, and will discuss the “Architectural and Landscape Heritage”.

In the year that celebrates 20 years since its creation, the Order of Architects carries out this new congress.

Having as its central theme "The Architectural and Landscape Heritage", what is the class's magna meeting will "demonstrate the qualifying role that architecture plays in the preservation and construction of the future architectural and landscape heritage, in economic, social and innovation development for the society".

In addition to the aggregating theme, the debate will include three sub-themes: spatial planning and enhancement, rehabilitation of architectural and landscape heritage and the professional practice of architects.

The response of architects to territorial risks, the current paths of access to the profession, the ways of exercising the profession and the importance of architects as decision makers and political actors are some of the themes on which the debate will unfold over the three days of the Congress, which, in this edition, it will have a different participation structure from that adopted in previous congresses.

In order to facilitate the prior debate on the topic and sub-themes, the 15th congress includes two new forms of participation in addition to the usual motions, recommendations and communications: the thematic debate and the transversal debate.

While the thematic debate will take place around a document previously disclosed and presented at a round table by a self-proposed working group, the transversal debate can involve people who are not architects and is organized around a transversal topic, involving different entities or professions connected in some way to architects.

The 15th Congress opens on October 25th with a lecture by Spanish architect Emílio Tuñón, from Tuñón Arquitectos, distinguished in 2014 by the Spanish Government with the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts.

Fundación Docomomo Ibérico and the International Council of Portuguese Language Architects will be among the various guests at the Congress, and work meetings of the two international organizations are planned on October 26th.

In addition to the Congress work, a parallel program of social and cultural activities will take place over the three days with visits, exhibitions and cinema that extends to the entire Barlavento Algarvio region, as well as a fair of materials in the space of the Congress Center of the Arade
