Gastronomy, live handicrafts, the XXX National Limousine Beef Contest and music. That's how it will be, from this Friday, July 20th, the FACECO – Cultural and Economic Activities Fair of the Municipality of Odemira, an event that «has a loyal audience», but promises «good feelings for everyone».
In statements to the Sul Informação, Ricardo Cardoso, vice-president of the Chamber of Odemira, considered that «FACECO is the place where the best of Odemira is demonstrated». Whether in the area of agriculture or traditions, this is an event that until Sunday, the 22nd, promises to liven up the village of São Teotónio.
«We will have handicrafts, with 50 artisans working live, but also stands with the main companies in the municipality's sectors of activity, such as tourism, agriculture and forestry», said Ricardo Cardoso to our newspaper.
The cuisine and local products are also ingredients right at FACECO, as well as entertainment throughout the venue, including theatre, performances of Alentejo singing and music concerts on the main stage.
«This is an event that already has a loyal audience, but we also think that we are capable of attracting those who spend their holidays in our tourist destinations, such as Zambujeira do Mar and Vila Nova de Milfontes, which, at this time, have a lot of people. », considered the vice-president of the Chamber of Odemira to the Sul Informação.
At FACECO, the presence of the livestock sector will be, once again, quite strong, with the holding of various exhibitions and competitions of various breeds.
As has been the case for several years, the Limousine Bovine Breed will be highlighted, as FACECO receives the 30th National Contest.
The event is the meeting and business point between national and foreign breeders, in the municipality where the headquarters of the Portuguese Association of Limousine Bovine Breeders and the largest number of herds of the breed are located.
Also in the livestock sector, the 15th Regional Contest of the Holstein Frisia Bovine Breed and the 23rd Regional Contest of the Cabra Charnequeira are held. The 19th Honey Contest and the 8th Children's Honey Contest will also be promoted.
As for the number of visitors, Ricardo Cardoso said that it is usually "around 30 and, this year, we hope to have numbers in that order".
However, he said, more than the thousands of people, the objective is to «give good feelings to those who go to FACECO». "It is very important to have quality and we believe that we are doing a great event, with a pleasant venue, full of green and beautiful spaces", he considered.
It is certain that the fair receives people from both the Alentejo and the Algarve, a region that «is very close to us, in Odemira».
In addition, a strong presence of thousands of immigrants, who are working in the Southwest of Alentejo, picking red fruits (and beyond). "All these immigrants are from Odemirenses like us," said Ricardo Cardoso.
And there will even be, on Sunday, the last day, a showcooking of Nepalese cuisine, at 19:20 pm.
But FACECO also has another component: the musical. Here, the highlights go to the performances of the group Fado Lelé (Friday, July 20th), Miguel Gameiro (on Saturday) and Fernando Daniel (on Sunday).
