A Algarve team Shock Sailing took advantage of his participation in the 26th Volta ao Algarve à Vela/Land Rover Sailing Challenge, which ended on Saturday, to promote the defense of the oceans. The vessel's crew joined the campaign “clean seas”, promoted by the UN, and hoisted a message to the bow of the vessel at all stopping points of the event, “to publicize the urgency of sustaining such a serious environmental threat”.

"The initiative, which is being developed around the world, aims to raise awareness of the threat that plastic poses to the oceans," revealed Choque Sailing, who recalls that, every year, "eight million tons are sent to the sea. plastic” and that, in 2015, it was estimated that “99% of seabirds” had already ingested this material.

The 26th Round of the Algarve à Vela/Land Rover Sailing Challenge was organized by the Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro and had three stages, which linked Vila Real de Santo António to Lagos.

Choque Sailing, representing the organizing club, finished fourth in the Bénéteau Platu 25 class, in a race «that brings together vessels of high competitive level, as it precedes the classic Regata dos Portos dos Descobrimentos, which, next week, will unite Lagos to Pallos de la Frontera».

At the same time, this was also a party for sailing lovers, since all stages were followed by gatherings between the participants.

The Algarve team took the opportunity to «check the reliability of the recent adjustments introduced on the vessel, as well as gain experience in a type of navigation that is completely different from that which happens in the Ria Formosa regattas».

«Participating in this event, in addition to the natural pleasure of sailing and revisiting the ports of the Algarve, was a way of contributing to the team's competitiveness, as it provided a measure of forces with other more experienced crews», considered Miguel Caetano , skipper da Shock Sailing team, which also includes João Catarino, Miguel Caramelo, Nuno Santos, Rodrigo Beja, Sérgio Cardoso, Sérgio Branco and Sérgio Vieira.

Choque Sailing has the support of Nave Pegos Boat Yard, Sul Informação and Naval Club Gym Faro.
