Journalists, agents and tour operators rediscovered the secrets of the municipality of Olhão in yet another Fam Trip promoted by the Algarve Tourism Region. The visit, in which the Sul Informação attended, took place this Thursday, 24th of May.

The day started at the Real Marina Hotel & Spa, the only 5-star hotel in the eastern Algarve, located in Olhão, where «the most important projects to be developed in the municipality, of public and private initiative» were presented.

One of them is the redevelopment of the west zone which, according to the City Council of Olhão, “will transform this entrance to the city into a pleasant leisure space. The project includes the creation of gardens, urban beaches, commercial spaces and a low-volume hotel unit. This public investment of around 3 million euros will start to become a reality in early 2019».

Another area that will undergo a major renovation will be the riverfront with the redevelopment of the Patrão Joaquim Lopes and Pescador Olhanense gardens, the surroundings of the Municipal Markets and Avenida 5 de Outubro, giving «the whole area more modern, multipurpose and, above all, more friendly to pedestrians», adds the municipality.

The start of works is scheduled for October, with a global investment of around 1,5 million euros.

The transformation of this area of the city will be completed with two more private investments: the marina and the Del Mar Marina development.

In the first “stop” of the Fam Trip, the participants also got to know two more projects “whose positive effects will be felt in the quality of life of the people of Olho, but also in the experience of those who visit the city and the county”. The first of the investments will be the construction of housing at controlled costs, «a municipal investment that aims to support the people of Olho in the purchase of a house at sustainable prices», and the construction of a high-rise car park in the vicinity of the CTT, whose estimated budget is of 1 million euros, with work scheduled to start in the second half of this year.

The latest “news” to be presented to journalists, agents and tour operators were the municipality's mobile application and tourist website, which will be launched on June 16, City Day.

Journalists, agents and tour operators then had the opportunity to rediscover the Ria Formosa on a boat trip and walk along the Caminho das Lendas, in the historic districts of Barreta and Levante.

To whet the appetite for lunch, there was a visit to the Museu da Conserveira do Sul, a project still under development, which reveals the past of the historic Algarve company.

After lunch, the visit continued to the interior of the municipality of Olhão, where the secrets of the internationally awarded Casa Modesta and of the also awarded Azeites Monterosa were revealed.

At the end of the day, the delegation was received at Vila Monte Farm House, in Moncarapacho, where they tasted the flavors of the Ria Formosa, such as grilled oysters and clams.
