The Paul de Lagos area will have a Detailed Plan, as decided at the last meeting of the City Council. 

The lacobrigense executive then decided to «determine the elaboration of the Paul de Lagos Detailed Plan, corresponding to the only Operational Planning and Management Unit (UOPG 10) of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM), which aims to safeguard, enhance and promote a an area with very peculiar natural characteristics and to protect an area of ​​the utmost importance for nature conservation, at the local and regional level».

The expected execution period of this plan is 370 days, not counting the time inherent to the processing and procedures provided for in the Legal Regime of Territorial Management (RJIGT), preceded by a period of public participation of 15 days, during which the interested parties they will have the opportunity to formulate and present suggestions and information on any issues that may be considered within the respective drafting procedure.

This period will start from the date of publication of the notice in Diário da República.

The City Council also decided to qualify the Detailed Plan not being subject to the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) under the terms of the RJIGT, and under the criteria established in the annex to Decree-Law no. 232/2007 of 15 June, since, within the scope of the PDM and the Lagos Urbanization Plan, these steps have already been covered.

The political will to safeguard and promote Paul de Lagos is also expressed in the candidacy of the Lagos City Council to CRESC Algarve 2020, which received approval and which, in terms of intervention, includes not only the UOPG 10 of the PDM, but also the areas adjacent areas identified in the study by SPEA – Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds and in the Lagos Urbanization Plan, whose bed and banks of the Ribeira de Bensafrim give natural continuity to the Paul's resources.

One of the actions foreseen in this candidacy is precisely the elaboration of a Detailed Plan, with the publication of a monograph on this portion of the territory entitled “Paul de Lagos: Geoarcheology of a territory” as well.
