On May 27, to celebrate the 158th birthday of Manuel Teixeira Gomes, the Instituto de Cultura Ibero-Atlântica promotes, for the fifth consecutive year, now in collaboration with the Faina Restaurant, at the Museu de Portimão, a cultural and literary gathering, with readings excerpts from the work of the writer from Portimo, chosen by those who want to enjoy a Mediterranean brunch prepared by chef Emídio Freire.

The idea, according to João Ventura, president of the ICIA, “is, entangled in the threads of time, to sit with Manuel Teixeira Gomes watching the Arade basin with him, with the Monchique mountains in the background, bordering a picturesque village, in the form of a pyramid, which is called Ferragudo” (“In the Algarve”, in Regressos), and imagine ourselves taking a break from an excursion that the traveler-writer undertook – as he reported to his friend and poet João de Barros – from Orão, where he took a short time, then went “to Tlémcen, and from there to Morocco, where there is a perfect bus service, which allows you to visit, with great comfort and in a few days, its main cities (In Agosto Azul)” .

The moment will be used for the ICIA to launch the “Travel Notebooks” Contest, in which each competitor will imagine the traveler Manuel Teixeira Gomes on a Mediterranean tour, writing down his travel impressions on a Moleskine.
