Exhibitions, cinema, videomapping and a “Steroids Attack” at Sé de Faro mark Algarve Design Meeting [with photos]

Seminars, workshops, exhibitions, alumni design talks, open air cinema, shops pop-up, videomapping these are some of the proposals for the 8th edition of the Algarve Design Meeting, which opened its doors this Tuesday and runs until Saturday, the 26th, at the former beer factory, in Faro.

In 2018, the event, which has gained notoriety from year to year, will award, for the first time, the Algarve Design Awards and will invite the public to play “Steroids Attack” on the façade of the Sé.

António Lacerda, coordinator of the Algarve Design Meeting, speaking to the Sul Informação, highlights as highlights of this edition «the exhibitions of various national and international designers», as well as the «very strong conferences, with very interesting national and foreign names» and the delivery, «for the first time, of the Algarve Design Awards, at the areas of communication, interior and product design».

The Videomapping Festival is also once again “one of the highlights” of the Algarve Design Meeting. At the festival, scheduled for Saturday 26th, at 22 pm, works by students from design courses at the University of Algarve-ESEC, the University of Tomas Bata – Czech Republic, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and ESAD – School of Arts and Design, Matosinhos.

However, preceding and closing this «unique» festival at the national level, the Sé façade of Faro it will be the “stage” of two other moments, which are also “unmissable”, according to António Lacerda.

Between 21:00 pm and 22:00 pm, there will be videomapping interactive, in which «people's movements are captured through sensors, which allows them to interact and play in real time with the images projected on the facade». This performance was developed by Inês Moreira, Joana Delbone and Sara Martins, students of the 3rd year of the Communication Design course at UAlg.

Closing the Algarve Design Meeting, after the Videomapping Festival, there will be a new performance by Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela, who «are going to act for the first time in the Algarve and who are two big names in these areas», concludes António Lacerda.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves, regional director of Culture, Saúl Neves de Jesus, vice-rector of the University of Algarve, and António Guerreiro, director of the Superior School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve, attended the opening ceremony of the event and visited and interacted with the exhibits at the Fábrica da Cerveja.

The event also supports the dissemination of Sul Informação, RUA FM, LCPA, Epopeia and Barlavento and the sponsorship of the Hotel de Faro, Tertúlia Algarvia, Multicopias, Al-Gharb and Bertin Picanço.
