The Municipality of Albufeira already has six electric vehicles in circulation, but, until the end of the year, it wants to open a new procedure for the acquisition of another six vehicles.

The new five-seater vehicles, with a 30 kWh battery and a real autonomy of 300 kilometers, represent a global investment in the order of 166 thousand euros. The measure aims to promote sustainable mobility with a low environmental impact.

José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, says that this acquisition is part of the «Mobility Strategy of the Municipality that aims to gradually replace older and more polluting internal combustion vehicles with more environmentally friendly electric vehicles. , with a view to promoting sustainable mobility with a low environmental impact'.

The mayor highlights that, «being Albufeira an imminently touristic municipality, environmental concerns are the order of the day, so it is essential to adopt measures that contribute to the efficient use of energy, the reduction of polluting emissions and the noise resulting from car driving» .

In May 2017, the Municipality signed an institutional collaboration protocol with the Instituto do Turismo de Portugal, MOBI.E,SA (managing entity of the electric mobility network), the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and the Association of Car Hire Manufacturers without Driver (ARAC) with a view to promoting electric mobility and sustainable tourism in the region.

Based on this agreement, the municipality undertook, together with the other municipalities in the region, to implement a charging network for electric vehicles and to create mechanisms of positive differentiation for citizens and visitors, namely through support and temporary exemptions from payment on loading and parking.

Electric vehicles are supplied through three fixed stations, each with three charging points, located in the Paços do Concelho building and in the municipal facilities of Páteo and Vale Pedras.

In addition to these charging stations for the private use of the City Council, the installation of two more public service stations, owned by the Municipality, connected to the Mobi-e network is planned for the near future, intended for all owners of electric vehicles with a Mobi-card. and.

These posts will be installed on Rua do Município, next to the Car Park, and on Rua Manuel Bentes Júnior, next to Car Park P1.

Under the institutional protocol with Turismo de Portugal, AMAL, Mobie and ARAC, two more charging stations will be installed. In the first phase, a post will be installed in Alameda da Orada, next to the Marina de Albufeira, and later, on a date yet to be defined, another in Rua Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Corcovada.

In both situations, each station will have two semi-rapid charging points at 22 kW, for two vehicles at the same time, with free parking.

Vehicles have a low energy cost, in medium voltage, and a system that allows them to be managed through a smartphone application, which controls energy, GPS location and the environment.

In addition to these advantages, the measure also improves the efficiency of the municipal fleet, since electric motors have triple the efficiency of traditional combustion vehicle engines, with annual savings expected to amount to an average of 616 euros per vehicle.
