Young people attending the penultimate and final year of any higher education course can now apply for the 26th Internship Program for Young Students of Higher Education in Companies (PEJENE), promoted by the Youth Foundation. For the Algarve there are around 40 internships in 10 training areas.

The internships take place between July and September next and presuppose the attribution of a food and transport subsidy, as well as a personal accident insurance.

Across the country, there are more than 500 vacancies that are still to be filled in more than 80 different areas of training, ranging from health, to technologies through teaching, journalism, management or areas such as psychology, tourism, sociology, forestry engineering, among others. Each young person can apply for up to 2 internship vacancies, according to their preferences.

As Francisco Maria Balsemão, president of the Youth Foundation explains, «PEJENE promotes a direct relationship between the School and the Company/Hosting Entity, through the development of joint training projects in the workplace, even during the study period of the young".

«This is a program whose main objective is to integrate the intern in a placement organization, developing specific tasks in accordance with an Internship Plan previously elaborated in accordance with the intern's training area. The internships take place under the supervision of an experienced (professional) technical tutor from the placement organization who, at the end of the internship, will prepare a final evaluation report», he adds.

Applications, which this year are available for all areas of activity, can be made through the platform www.fjuventude.pt/pejene2018, where, after evaluating the requirements of companies and host entities, the Youth Foundation publishes the list of vacancies for internships, thus initiating applications for young students.

«In 2017, PEJENE started giving priority to companies operating in the areas of the Orange Economy and Green Economy. In this 2018 edition, taking into account the high number of requests from companies, the Youth Foundation decided not to stipulate preference criteria, thus giving opportunities to all companies», adds Francisco Maria Balsemão.

PEJENE, which in 2017 had an employability rate of 23%, is part of one of the strategic action vectors of the Youth Foundation - Employment and Entrepreneurship - and is an important factor for curriculum enrichment as well as the acquisition of experience and knowledge in context labor.

Since 1993, this program has responded to the needs of young people who are completing higher education, allowing them to perform professional tasks, and to increase their knowledge in a real work environment, not forgetting the world trends of economic development.
