A chamber music concert with works by Mozart and the performance of Doppio Ensemble, violinist Evandra de Brito Gonçalves and pianist Ana Queiroz, continued the program of the Algarve International Music Festival, with concerts in Faro and in Lagos, respectively, last week.

On April 12, musicians from the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS) were at the Municipal Library of Faro, to present the second part of the concert “Mozart. Masterpieces for Winds”. The audience was able to enjoy the pieces “Quartet with Flute No. 1 in D major, K. 285”, “Quartet with Oboe in F major, K. 370 (368b)”, “Sonata for Bassoon and Cello in B flat major, K. 292 (196c)”, “Quintet with Horn in E-flat major, K. 407 (386c)”.

Mozart, recalls OCS, FIMA's organizer, wrote some of his best pieces “by order of musicians he knew and was written for them with their virtuosic abilities in mind, as well as the potential of their instrument”.

The program of this concert and the one that preceded it, held on March 23, in Castro Marim, aimed at «highlighting some of the most important chamber music works, highlighting the wind instruments».

On Friday, the 14th, the Doppio Ensemble was at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, to present works composed by the Portuguese Fernando Lopes-Graça, Anne Victorino d'Almeida, and also by Astor Piazzola and Sergei Prokofiev.

Evandra Gonçalves and Ana Queiroz created this project in 2002, with the ambition of «contributing to the dissemination and recognition of Portuguese contemporary art and culture, either by approaching renowned composers, such as Lopes-Graça, or by commissioning works by young composers, such as Anne Vitorino d'Almeida».

And that's what they did in the commented concert, which they performed in Lagos. The Portuguese pianist and violinist performed the work “Sonatina nº 1 for violin and piano”, by Lopes-Graça, as well as the piece “Sonatina e Sonata” by Anne Victorino d'Almeida. The evening's program also featured the pieces “Histore du Tango – Excerpts”, by Piazzolla, and “Sonata for violin and piano nº 2, Op.94 bis”, by Prokofiev.
