68 foreigners residing in the region will take the Initial Certificate of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CIPLE), on Saturday, April 21, at the School of Management, Hotel and Tourism (ESGHT), on the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, in Faro.

Those who obtain the certificate will be able to acquire Portuguese nationality.

“The CIPLE exam consists of three components, Reading Comprehension and Writing, Listening and Speaking, and attests to the basic general ability to interact in a limited number of predictable everyday communication situations,” explains UAlg.

«The exam is carried out through a protocol established with the Center for Assessment of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE) of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon. In addition to this A2 level exam of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, ESGHT will hold four more advanced level exams for professional and academic purposes – B1, B2, C1 and C2 – at the end of May. There is also a second season of exams in the months of October and November», added the Algarve university.

CAPLE's Portuguese Foreign Language exams are recognized by several national and foreign institutions for professional, social and educational purposes.

Since 2011, ESGHT has received over 1400 foreign candidates, «providing a fundamental service to the foreign community in the Algarve and supporting the essential purposes of this University: respect and appreciation for diversity and a close connection with the surrounding community».
