“Cantos da Quaresma” will sound on Saturday, March 31, at the Igreja Matriz in Monchique, at 16 pm. Musicians César Prata and Sara Vidal will star in this concert, which has the seal of Sons Vadios – Cooperativa Cultural and is included in the Holy Week celebration program in this municipality.

«Lent represents a period of sublimation in the Portuguese musical tradition. After the revelry of Entrudo, forty days of abstinence and reflection follow. Absent the dances, silent musical instruments and even the ringing of bells, traditional Portuguese music incorporated the deep religiosity of the Lenten period, generating essentially vocal, poignant and profoundly beautiful musical formats: commissions of souls, martyrdoms, praises, good wishes». frames the Vadio Sounds.

César Prata and Sara Vidal made collections in various parts of the country to create what started out as a live show, premiered in 2017, but which evolved into a CD, which came out this year.

In this work, the musicians «detach the song from the rhythm of the religious rite and convert it to a broader musicality, with new melodic and instrumental sounds, unusual in popular practice».

“The end result is the balance between respect for the legacy of tradition and the daring of perpetuating reinvention”, concludes Sons Vadios.
