The 2nd edition of Semana Verde, which will take place between the 19th and the 23rd of March, has a new feature this year: the Forum on Environmental Education for Citizenship, which will take place on the 19th of March, at the Convento de S. José, in Lagoa.

The Municipality of Lagoa thus brings together, in a training action consisting of four panels, the various partners with which it develops environmental education projects, with the aim of promoting the updating of knowledge through the dissemination of research and education projects.

Knowing the participation of institutions, companies and young people from civil society in local policies, access to information, defense of the local and global environment, exchange of experiences and learning for active citizenship and environmental education through the use of technologies are also objectives this initiative.

The Forum on Environmental Education for Citizenship is aimed at teachers of different levels of education, kindergarten teachers, environmental educators, students and technicians from NGOs and municipalities, researchers, political actors, young people and the general public, and is accredited by the Center Albufeira, Lagoa and Silves training courses as a short-term training action.

This event has national reference speakers in each theme, distributed over several areas of interest: Ecological Footprint (Zero Association), Microplásticos & Companhia (Portuguese Environment Agency), Environmental Education and Biodiversity Conservation (Quercus Association) and Educar para act (Association of the Blue Flag of Europe).

During the same, the exhibition “Green that I want you green” will be inaugurated. It will be possible to appreciate the work of students from pre-school and basic education (1st cycle of public, private and social network) developed in various commemorative moments, such as World Children's Day.

Several groups from the Padre António Martins de Oliveira Group of Schools (Lagoa) and the Nobel International School of the Algarve (Porches), as well as the artist Estêvão Paixão, are the authors of this exhibition, which will be open until the 31st of March.

The event will be attended by the Education Councilor Luís Encarnação, the Regional Education Delegate Francisco Marques, the CCDR Algarve Services Director, Maria José Nunes, and the Agriculture and Fisheries Councilor, Anabela Simão.

Between the 20th and the 23rd, Green Week will offer a set of educational activities in the Municipal Park of Sítio das Fontes, in Estômbar, aimed at 4th grade students and where it will be possible to plant native species and learn about the meteorological observations that take place in the location, if weather conditions permit.

The local authority will provide interested schools with native plants that, as part of the “Plant your tree” activity, can be placed on the school grounds.

Also within the scope of this initiative, the Municipality of Lagoa is preparing to support the “A Hora do Planeta” movement, on March 24, symbolically turning off the lights in various public places in the municipality.
