The Algarve will have ten new Proximity Mobile Health Units in operation by the end of 2018, announced the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve. These new responses will be born within the scope of a pilot project that «aimed at strengthening health care in proximity to the NHS under the responsibility of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, in a protocol with ten local authorities in the region».

«The new USMP of the National Health Service will guarantee the provision of modernized proximity healthcare to populations residing in rural and low-density territories in the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Loulé, Monchique, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves and Tavira», according to ARS do Algarve.

This is a project “unique in its dimension at the national level and whose Framework Agreement was signed in February 2018”. The funding comes, in part, from the European Union, through the CRESC Algarve 2020 Operational Programme.

«The applications were presented by ARS Algarve in partnership with the municipalities of the region, also integrating AMAL, which, as a partner in the projects, developed the International Public Tender for the conclusion of the framework agreement that establishes the legal and technical conditions for the supply of Health Units Proximity Furniture», added the ARS.

The acquisition process of the mobile units will be carried out by the municipalities that are the financial beneficiaries of the community support.

"By means of protocols, each of the ten municipalities will collaborate in close coordination with the ARS Algarve and the NHS health units, to ensure support and health care ever closer to the population", concluded the entity responsible for the National Service of Health in the Algarve.
