200 children from schools in Olhão, Faro, São Brás de Alportel and Vila do Bispo participated, last Thursday, March 22, in the commemorations of World Water Day, in the Natural Reserve of Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA.

This initiative took place within the scope of the Água Jovem Forum, developed by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) with the participation of various local and regional entities. At the invitation of the Odiana association, Elisabete Laurindo was encouraging the young people with “Terapia do Riso”.

Odiana took advantage of this meeting, under the motto of water resources, to develop an environmental awareness action with young people from the 1st and 2nd cycles where it presented the territory of Baixo Guadiana, with a focus on water heritage, such as the Guadiana River, the streams, dams, fish species and birdlife, highlighting their importance, preservation and enhancement.

This action was developed using the book “Overvoando o Baixo Guadiana” and the game “À Descoberta do Baixo Guadiana”, both products developed by the association.

“In the end, the balance was extremely positive. All participants received an educational kit and left messages and key words about the importance of water», says Odiana.

Odiana participated in this Forum, and developed this action to raise environmental awareness, through the “Valagua” project. This is a project in which Odiana is part of a partnership and within which it develops a set of actions that aim to improve the quality and quantity of water available for various uses, such as recovering the quality of habitats and associated ecosystems .

The “Valagua” project – Environmental Enhancement and Integrated Management of Water and Habitats in the Lower Guadiana Transfrontier, was approved under the First Call of the Interreg VA Spain- Portugal 2014-2020 Program, co-financed by the ERDF.
