The TASA Project “Artesãos do Século XXI” is open until the 15th of January, for artisan apprentices, in the areas of basket weaving, chair stuffing and palm weaving.

This initiative aims to «contribute to the training and installation of new artisans in the area of ​​woven fabrics, seeking to enhance the traditional arts of the Algarve and the artisans who carry them out», launching a training and installation program for new artisans.

According to those responsible for TASA Project, the program intends to «respond directly to the need to transmit knowledge in the arts of the entwined to a new generation of artisans».

For this, “it condenses into an intensive program the basic techniques to develop skills in the area of ​​basket weaving (cane), mulching of chairs and palm lattices (employment, “mesh” and straw). It is in these arts that there is a higher average age for the artisans who collaborate with the TASA Project».

The aim is to train new artisans and integrate some of them into the team. TASA Project, giving them the opportunity to collaborate in the development of products that combine artisanal production with innovation and to participate in creative activities related to tourism and art.

Apprentices will have an initial cycle of training in the various techniques, after which they must choose one of two specializations.

The sessions, which will take place between the 8th of February and the 31st of May, will take place in the artisans' workshops in the area of ​​Loulé (contract), Castro Marim (basketry) and Alcoutim (straw).
