The Maritime Police of Tavira seized this Wednesday, January 17, "more than 20 kilos of shellfish", from a Spanish vessel, off the beach of Cacela.

The boat was accompanied to the port of Tavira, where, after applying the necessary precautionary measures, it was allowed to return to the sea.

"The infraction of fishing below the permitted depth corresponds to a fine that can vary between 600 and 37 thousand euros", says the National Maritime Authority.

The bivalves, being alive, were returned to their natural habitat.

In this policing operation, aimed at vessels with towed hook gear, five agents and one vessel from the Local Command of the Tavira Maritime Police were involved.
