The Eurocity of Guadiana, as a new tourist destination in the Iberian Peninsula, was presented this Friday at the Madrid International Tourism Fair – Fitur 2018.

This new tourist brand, made up of the municipalities of Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, «further strengthens the banks of the River Guadiana and enhances the existing facilities on the borders of the Algarve and Andalusia», explains the Chamber of VRSA.

In a presentation attended by a hundred spectators, Alberto Fernández, mayor of Ayamonte, and Luís Romão, vice-president of the Vila Real de Santo António City Council, «exalted the range of skills that exist in the Eurocity of the Guadiana region and that they do this is an absolutely desirable destination», says the municipality.

According to the Municipality of Vila Real, the «sports infrastructure, 20 kilometers of white sand beaches, a mild climate, an unavoidable gastronomy, six golf courses, historical and cultural heritage of great interest, an easily navigable river, hotels with good hosting capacity and a conference center of high dimension and quality are some of the factors that make this tourist destination a new reference in the Iberian Peninsula.

The union of three municipalities with their “well-defined and consolidated identity, the will to grow and be competitive in this and other areas were some of the central points mentioned by the two governors”, adds the municipality.

For Luís Romao, vice-president of the Chamber of VRSA, he believes that "much more than moving away, the Guadiana river, a common link between the three municipalities, brings them closer together and gives them more cohesion."

The strategy of joint promotion of the new tourist destination will be continued on the Lisbon Tourism Exchange and other specialty fairs and exhibitions.
