the show of traveling theater and “Cataplay” gastronomy will be presented in room CA2, at Centro Cultural António Aleixo, on February 2nd, at 19 pm.
This is the story of «an Arab chef and a slutty cook» who compete with each other for the best cataplana recipe, while humorously approaching everyday concerns.
According to the Chamber of VRSA, "the discord between the characters also represents the competition that exists in professional kitchens, between chefs and cooks, between men and women and, at the same time, the clash of cultures, specifically between Arab culture, which is supposed to be at the origin of the creation of the cataplana and of the Algarve culture».
Performance “also combines other arts, such as music and dance. The gastronomy appears at the end of each presentation, where the public will have the opportunity to taste the typical Algarve dish, the cataplana, freshly made in parallel by guest chefs», adds the municipality.
With the exception of Mário Spencer (The famous Al-chef), who considers himself «Algarvian by adoption», the entire team that created “Cataplay” is from the Algarve: interpreter Tânia Silva (cook Marafada), stage director João de Brito , costume designer Filipe Correia, text author Joana Guita and technicians António Sérgio Martinho and Igor Martins.
The event is part of the «365 Algarve» program and is touring the Algarve between February and May 2018. There will be sessions spoken in Portuguese and subtitled in English and sessions spoken in English and subtitled in Portuguese.
This is a project promoted by Tertúlia Algarvia, with funding from the 365 Algarve Program.
