the theater play “Auto da Índia” is presented on December 7th and 8th in São Bartolomeu de Messines, and on December 10th, 11th and 12th in Silves, in a new cycle of “Noites AL Teatro” and “Escolas AL Teatro”.
Thus, the presentations to the general public will be on December 8, at 16:30 pm and at 21:30 pm, at the Sociedade de Instrução e Recreio Messinense, on December 9 at 21:30 pm, and on December 10, at 18:30 pm, at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregory in Silves.
For schools, the presentations will take place on December 7th, in Messines, and on December 11th and 12th, in Silves, always at 11:00 and 14:30.
«”Auto da India” is the first intriguing play that is recorded in the history of theater and literature in Portugal. It was, in fact, the first farce written by Gil Vicente and performed in 1509», explains the AL Teatro group.
“In the splendor of youth, a woman watches her husband leave for India, an uncertain destination from which much wealth came. This is the portrait of the XNUMXth century daily life, of a woman, among many others, during the height of the Discoveries, who, seeing her husband leave in Tristão da Cunha's Armada, in search of fortune and glory, chose to challenge their moral obligations of being a married woman and being happy in her own way, during her husband's absence,” she adds.
This show, which is produced by the Minho Krisálida company, is aimed at people over 12 years old and is staged by Nuno J. Loureiro and interpreted by Alexandre Martins, Carla Magalhães and Filipa Almeida. Duration is 45 minutes.
