The renovation of the floors of the accommodation and recovery cells, the acquisition of new feeding troughs, drinking fountains and platforms are some of the remodeling works to be carried out in the Silves Municipal Kennel.
This requalification can be done after the approval of an application submitted to the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV).
The application will allow all costs up to 5 euros to be financed, and the works must be completed by May 31, 2018.
The Municipality of Silves was the only one in the Algarve that saw its application approved.
This renovation of the Municipal Kennel has been carried out since October 2016, with the municipality having assumed all the costs of the works already carried out, namely the construction of two semicircular cells for the accommodation of dogs and three boxes for the housing of cats, intended for the isolation and quarantine of animals suspected of rabies.
There were also created more boxes taking advantage of an existing annex, which communicates to an also interior space, which works as a leisure place wider, where cats can jump, run, climb and descend.
The area of access to the Veterinary Medical Office was also physically separated from the area of the kennel itself, in order to provide easier and safer access for the collected dogs.
Also with the aim of improving the care provided to animals, the Municipality of Silves, through the Veterinary Medical Office, is finalizing the process of awarding the sterilization of stray or stray animals collected on public roads or other public places, to veterinary medical care centers in the county who applied for this procedure.
