The Parish Assembly of Mexilhoeira Grande wants to see public lighting installed on the renewed roundabout on the EN125 at the entrance to the village, «in order to respond to the problems of road insecurity that we are already witnessing and that will worsen if the situation is not revised».

For this, it made an official request to Infraestruturas de Portugal and Rotas do Algarve Litoral, the consortium responsible for the works on the EN125 between Faro and Vila do Bispo, following a motion presented by Jorge Santos, member elected by the PS for this body, approved on 6 December.

In the proposal presented, it is defended that «the solutions foreseen in the scope of the requalification of the EN125 reveal a huge lack of knowledge of the local reality and demonstrate an almost absence of concern for the safety of the population».

On the other hand, it should be noted that the roundabout that was built at the entrance to Figueira, as part of the redevelopment of the EN125 – which is “very close” and in the same parish -, has public lighting.

«We remember that the seat of the parish is precisely Mexilhoeira Grande! And that in this roundabout in Mexilhoeira Grande there is a pedestrian crossing, which gives access to a pedestrian path very frequented by the popular and tourists alike”, reads the approved motion.

Those elected for the Parish Assembly claim that the lack of lighting in this roundabout violates several norms, namely those for signaling roundabouts and traffic calming, in addition to diverging «from the solutions recommended in other roundabouts designed within the scope of this improvement of the EN125».
