Abel Matinhos was unanimously elected as the new president of JS Algarve, at the XIV Regional Socialist Youth Congress of the Algarve held this Saturday, 9 December. 

In this initiative, the Global Strategy Motion “Affirming the Algarve – Building the Future” was discussed, «around which important themes for young people in the Algarve, such as climate change, employment, mobility and transport and housing, were debated», he says. to JS.

"These themes, in particular, should mark the political intervention of this party structure in the next two years", he adds.

According to JS, «especially the focus on the need to build a regional plan for adaptation to climate change and the pursuit of environmental public policies and environmental awareness and civic awareness policies, as essential for the present and future of all ».

Themes such as education, health, qualification of democracy, decentralization were not forgotten either.

On this same occasion, Rui Anselmo was also elected as chairman of the Federal Political Committee, and Joana Guinote as chairman of the Federative Committee on Jurisdiction.

The opening of the congress was attended by Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, and Custódio Moreno, regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).

As for the closing of the Congress, it counted with the final intervention of Abel Matinhos, who thanked the unanimous result and the union around this candidacy.

There were also interventions by Luís Graça, president of the council PS Faro, Ana Passos, president of the federative department of socialist women and member of the Assembly of the Republic, José Apolinário, secretary of State for Fisheries, António Eusébio, president of the PS Federation of Algarve, and Eduardo Alves, representative of the National Secretariat of JS.
