The Algarve has just won two more Michelin stars to reward the excellence of its restaurants. New to the list are Vista restaurants, by young chef João Oliveira, at Hotel Bela Vista, in Praia da Rocha (Portimão), and Gusto by Heinz Beck, one of the Conrad Algarve's restaurants, in Quinta do Lago (Loulé).

The two Algarve stars are the only innovations for catering in Portugal, within the scope of the presentation of the 2018 edition of the most famous and influential gastronomic guide in the world, which has just been announced in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.

With these new awards, Portugal now has a total of 23 Michelin distinguished restaurants, five of them with two stars and eight located in the Algarve. Vila Joya (Albufeira), by Dieter Koschina, and Ocean, by Hans Neuner, at Vila Vita (Lagoa), maintain their two stars, while the rest of the Algarve – Bon Bon, by chef Rui Silvestre, in Carvoeiro, Henrique Leis , by Henrique Leis, and São Gabriel, by Leonel Pereira, both in Almancil, and Willie's, by Willie Wurger, in Vilamoura, continue to bear their only star. These are now joined by Vista and Gusto, both with a star.

João Oliveira, aged 30, is the chef at Vista, located on Praia da Rocha. Since last year, his first Michelin star was expected, thanks to his creative and consistent work, inspired by the Algarve region and the Mediterranean.

João Oliveira arrived at Vista at the beginning of 2015, to assume the position of Executive Chef, after having worked with some of the biggest references in national gastronomy. For 13 years he was Ricardo Costa's Sous-Chef, at The Yeatman (Porto), with one Michelin star, and, more recently, he worked at Vila Joya, two Michelin stars.

According to the newspaper "Público", Heinz Beck is already something of an old acquaintance in the Michelin guide, as he has had three stars in his restaurant in Rome, La Pergola, at the Hotel Cavalieri, for more than a decade. , this most recent, at London's Apsley's, at the Lanesborough Hotel. Now joins another star, in Gusto, from the Conrad Hotel.
