The Fishing Local Action Group of Sotavento do Algarve is accepting applications for the European Union Funds of the Operational Program Mar2020 until the 5th of January. In all, there are more than 3,3 million euros to support projects related to the sea and fisheries sector.

"This notice provides non-refundable support, with a public co-financing rate of 50% to 100%, depending on the type of beneficiary and the nature of the project", according to the Municipality of Olhão, which manages this line of support financed by the Fund locally. European Union for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the State Budget.

Projects in the following areas are eligible: “innovation in maritime space; school and professional qualification related to the aquatic environment; promotion of Sea Plans; preservation, conservation and enhancement of heritage elements and natural and landscape resources; strengthening the competitiveness of fisheries; strengthening the competitiveness of tourism; promotion of quality local products; improvement of short circuits of foodstuffs and local markets within the sea».

Applications must be submitted in paper and in triplicate, using the form available on the websites of the GAL Fishing Leeward Algarve and MAR2020 Program.

The GAL Pesca Sotavento Algarve is a partnership formed by public and private entities from the Eastern Algarve, whose managing partner is the Municipality of Olhão, «with the aim of implementing the Local Development Strategy for a Coastal Community Base in the Sotavento do Algarve region».

«The territory of intervention of this entity encompasses the coastal and riverine areas of the Sotavento do Algarve municipalities and has the strategic objectives of promoting and enhancing the competitiveness of the activities of the Mar do Sotavento cluster, promoting the employability of the population in the territory of intervention, promoting sustainability and valuing the natural and cultural heritage of the Ria Formosa and the Guadiana estuary and boosting cooperation and animation in the territory», concluded the municipality.
