Doctor João Larguito Claro died this morning, a victim of illness. The 70-year-old dermatologist and director of the Dermatology Service at Centro Hospitalar do Algarve was one of the most renowned clinicians in the Algarve.
The Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHA) and the Chamber of Faro they went public to lament the disappearance of Larguito Claro, described by the CHA as "our friend, our doctor, an exceptional human being", whose legacy "will remain with us forever".
The Board of Directors of the Algarve hospitals highlights the «relevant role» of the clinician in the history of the institution, of health in the Algarve and of medicine in Portugal, «constituting itself as a national and Public Service reference in the field of Dermatology and Telemedicine'.
«A man of causes and convictions, it was “in his patients”, as he affectionately treated them, who concentrated all his energy, professionalism and dedication, having been one of the main responsible for the development of the specialty of Dermatology at the Hospital de Faro, where for several years he held several top management positions, was Clinical Director and where he contributed to the training of dozens of young doctors», described the CHA.
«It played, simultaneously, an essential role in the accessibility of all citizens to healthcare in the specialty of Dermatology in the Region, having been a pioneer in the introduction of the application of Teledermatology at Health Centers in the Algarve, a fact that earned him the distinction with a Medal of the Ministry of Health', he added.
The Chamber of Faro he also highlighted the «legacy of great human and professional value» of João Larguito Claro and the fact that he was «the doctor who most expanded the support of his service to primary health care, through real-time teleconsultations, having stood out in 2016 for having given the best national response through teledermatological screening to requests for the first appointment made by family doctors».
«The results achieved in this area are largely due to his professionalism and unconditional dedication. With its unsurpassed availability, energy and motivation, it was the main driver of the use of new technologies in favor of improving the accessibility of all citizens to healthcare», considered the municipality of Faro, which distinguished João Larguito Claro with the Medal of Merit – Gold Degree of the City of Faro on the 7th of September.
