The solemn procession through the streets of the city was yesterday, September 8, at the end of the afternoon, the high point of the festivities of Nossa Senhora da Luz, patroness of Lagoa. And this time, even because it was a year of local elections, the procession had the power to bring together people of all party colors.

After the mass presided over by the Bishop of Algarve, the procession went out into the street, accompanied by two bands, the Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense and the Sociedade Filarmónica Silvense, and hundreds of people of all ages and even different nationalities. The procession was also attended by D. Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg.

In some houses along the streets, the tradition of placing quilts at the window to greet Our Lady of Light still prevailed.

The effort of the men from the andor, who carried the image of the saint along more than an hour and a half of procession through the main streets of the old center of Lagoa, was duly appreciated.

Meanwhile, in the area next to the church and the garden, the stalls selling trinkets and shoes did their business. At night, the festivities ended with a concert by Marco Paulo.

But the day, which is also the municipal holiday of Lagoa, was occupied with other activities, namely inaugurations, as is customary on these festive days.
