Speaking at Festival F is (really) talking about music for all tastes

Festival F is coming and brings with it musical formations of the most different styles and from very different paths. From Thursday, August 31st, until Saturday, September 2nd, Vila-Adentro de Faro (and not only) will be filled with sounds, with jazz joining a program that, as we already knew, will also feature classical music, with rock, pop, indie and electronic music, always with Portuguese protagonists.

In 2017, the Chamber of Faro, which boosts the festival with the partnership of Sons em Trânsito, clearly bet on a upgrade do F, which is noted not only with the extension of the event in terms of time and space, but also in the consolidation of a model based on Portuguese music, adding diversity and scope to it (see full program below).

This can be seen not only in the styles and paths of the invited artists, but also in the cultural proposals available to the visitor. Over three days, those who enter the venue will not only be able to attend dozens of scheduled concerts, but also enjoy stand up comedy shows, exhibitions, street entertainment and gastronomy, not to mention the visual arts.

Three days before the start of Festival F, its organizers performed in Faro another meeting with journalists, to lift what was left of the veil on this year's edition of the initiative.

And if it was already public that F was going to have the presence of names like Xutos e Pontapés, Rui Veloso, Mão Morta, Jorge Palma, Agir, Cuca Roseta and Carminho, as well as the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, it became known that jazz will also be played daily in Vila-Adentro de Faro, during the festival.

Galeria Arco, a space with a privileged view over the Ria Formosa, will host concerts by Miguel Martins “Kaleidoscopio” (31st August), Carlos Bica (1st September) and Beatriz Pessoa (2nd September), always at 21 pm.

Paulo Santos, vice president of the Chamber of Faro, also highlighted the new role that the Associação de Músicos takes on, bearing in mind that the alterations made to the venue and the expansion to Largo de São Francisco made this cultural space, in the former Fábrica de Cerveja, «a central place». It will be here that the performances of stand up comedyas well as DJ sets.

Another "great novelty that has been sought to introduce since the first edition" are the daily sessions of videomapping, in the Cathedral of Faro. The Faro local authority invited the National Association of Designers, which annually holds the Algarve Design Meeting in the Algarve capital, where there is always a show of this nature, to make a best off of the different editions of this initiative and show them during the F. This selection will be «projected three times a night».

The idea is that Festival F is increasingly a festival to be enjoyed with the family. It was also with this in mind that the venue was expanded to Largo de São Francisco, raising the venue's capacity to 21 thousand people per day (the total number of visitors in 2016) and reorganizing stages, which will allow visitors to circulate «with greater fluidity'.

The increase in capacity, combined with the increase in the number of festival days, two first-hand advances by Sul Informação, in June, were “a risk” taken by the event's organizers, but which, for now, seems to be paying off.

As had already happened in the three previous editions, the Chamber of Faro and Sons em Trânsito promoted a pre-sale period for festival tickets (for the three days), at a lower price, which ended on Friday.

“On the 25th of August, when the pre-sale ended, we had sold roughly the same number of tickets as last year, at the entrance to the first day”, revealed Vasco Sacramento, from Sons em Trânsito. This opens up good prospects for the organization, not least because, last year, there was no space for everyone who wanted to be on the last day of the festival.

Despite this, "there are still tickets", guaranteed Paulo Santos. Anyone wishing to guarantee their presence on the three days of the festival can purchase a festival pass for 40 euros (during the pre-sale it cost 30 euros). The daily ticket costs 15 euros. Children up to and including 12 years old do not pay.
