A new forest fire-fighting vehicle is now available to Firefighters in Portimão, for replace the car that burned down in a fire in Monchique in June. 

The Fire Department of Portimão highlights “the recovery of this operational capacity in record time”.

To this end, the help of the Municipalities of Monchique and Portimão was important. The local authorities gave, respectively, 30 thousand and 30750 euros for the purchase of the vehicle, which is “essential” for the action of firefighters.

The final value of the new car was 160 thousand euros, of which 92 thousand will be supported by the National Civil Protection Authority. The remainder will be in charge of funds from the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Portimão.

The fire brigade emphasizes that, despite the destruction of the vehicle in the fire, there was "no personal injury to the team of five firefighters who emerged unscathed from an extreme and complex situation."

«The Firefighters of Portimão actively participate in the Special Device for Combating Forest Fires (DECIF) in the Algarve, maintaining, during the most severe danger phase (Charlie, three intervention teams (EI), one of which is pre-positioned in the Seasonal Detachment of Senhora do Verde (Mexilhoeira Grande), to which is added, in readiness, a Team for Recognition and Assessment of the Situation».

"They are also part of the means of reinforcement within the scope of intra-district and inter-district cooperation, as was the case of the movement of the Regional Command Post Team and the Reinforcement Groups for the large fires in the center of the country, which represented periods of commitment with more 40 firefighters dedicated exclusively to rural fires», adds that corporation.

Even so, the Portimão Fire Departments guarantee that they "always maintained the capacity to respond to the increase in operational demand in this summer season in the other areas of action of the Integrated Protection and Relief Operations System and the Integrated Medical Emergency System, contributing to the maintenance of a safe tourist destination'.
