The water that is distributed through the Quinta do Lago taps is the safest in the country and the aim is to replicate this example, first throughout the municipality of Loulé and then in all the Algarve's municipalities.

Infraquinta received, last Friday, the Water Product Quality Certification and became the first management company in decline to receive this distinction. At the launching ceremony of ÁguaIQ, the municipal company was praised and Carlos Martins, Secretary of State for the Environment, left a challenge: for the Algarve to be the first region in the country with certified water quality.

«The first challenge that remains here is for the mayors of the Algarve. First, the ideal would be to extend the project to the entire Municipality of Loulé, it would be good, because it is ambitious on a municipal scale, then it would be to take it to the whole Algarve, but what is desirable is to extend it to the whole country». said the ruler to Sul Informação.

In the case of the Algarve, there is even a competitive advantage for the region to be the first to obtain water quality certification: «the company Águas do Algarve, which distributes water on a high, is also certified in water quality» .

Carlos Martins, Secretary of State for the Environment

For this reason, “the fact that the entity on the rise already has a good part of these resources [of monitoring water quality and the number of analyzes carried out] incorporated into its normal management and accounting is a good step for municipalities to take advantage of this opportunity. in your favor, completing this work on the network at low. It's easier to do complementary work than starting from scratch”, added Carlos Martins, who interrupted his vacation to attend the ceremony.

Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, is committed to being a pioneer in this objective. «We want to replicate the example in other Infras. Achieving this across the municipality is a long way, it requires investment, planning and experience and Know-how, that Infraquinta already has, but we'll get there», he said.

The Secretary of State's praise had a special flavor for Infraquinta. For Miguel Piedade, chairman of the company's Board of Directors, “it feels good to hear that Infraquinta is an example, being the first company to obtain certification. It's not easy, but the place where we are forces us to strive for a level of quality well above the average. Only in this way is it possible to maintain a public space with the quality that the client demands».

But what makes the water distributed by Infraquinta so special? «We have a control system that is carried out from the point where we receive the water from Águas do Algarve, and we have system control points at various points in the network. We carry out daily collections and real-time monitoring, which allows us to analyze various parameters and act in real time», explained the responsible.

"To give you an idea, while the water quality control plan required by law requires Infraquinta to carry out 24 analyzes per year, the security plan requires 286 analyzes and, even so, Infraquinta plans to carry out 2017 analyzes in 310", he added .

Miguel Piedade believes that this is «a symbol of quality assurance that can satisfy the customer, but that can also have an impact in economic terms for the region. Quinta do Lago's hotel and tourist agents are guaranteed increased quality in the water they use».

Infraquinta is also “champion” in the fight against waste

The chairman of Infraquinta's board of directors revealed, during the presentation, that Quinta do Lago's supply network, with about 70 kilometers of pipelines, reinforced the status of national champion in the fight against water waste.

«When we thought it would be very difficult to improve the waste rate, which in 2015 was 6,3%, we found that, in 2016, through all the monitoring work and intelligent management technology, we managed to bring this figure down to 4,6%», revealed Miguel Piedade.
