Portuguese musician Rodrigo Leão and American Scott Matthew will perform at a concert at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, on the 21st of July, next Friday, at 21 pm.

The duo returns to the Farense concert hall to present their latest work, the album “Life is Long”. In 2013, they had already got together on this stage, even before they edited an album together.

The work that will serve as the basis for the concert, launched in 2016, is the culmination of a partnership between the two musicians that took its first steps in 2011.

That year, Scott Matthew gave voice to the theme Terrible Dawn from the album “A Montanha Mágica”, but the two musicians only met in person six months later, when the New York artist accepted an invitation to participate in concerts in Portugal and Spain.

In 2013, the formula was repeated with “Incomplete” and, «after that second collaboration, there was a desire to make a whole record together», revealed Rodrigo Leão to Sul Informação, in November 2016, days before acting with Scott Matthew in Loulé.

The composition of the songs on the album «Life is Long» lasted a year and a half, everything was done without haste, even because «it was not something that had to be done very quickly».

The distance between Lisbon and New York was bridged with the new communication highways and «that even gave us more freedom to do what we wanted».

The method had already been tested in previous collaborations and was repeated. The Portuguese musician sent to the United States of America «an idea of the song recorded at home, sometimes with synthesizers, a guitar, a bass». On returning from the mail, Rodrigo Leão received an mp3 recording, not least because «Scott had the freedom to write what he wanted, to make some melodies on top».

Months later, the duo returned to the Algarve, this time to act in Faro. At the concert on the 21st of July, the audience can recount «the story of an unlikely encounter that proved to be inevitable, between a composer known for his enchanted melodies and a voice that takes them to a higher level of magic», according to Teatro das Figures.

«The magic that is born when two artists come together to go further than they could separately – and that's what makes the dozen themes of life is long small jewels, which turn it into an album of discreet but breathtaking beauty, which is far beyond its end», concluded the Farense cultural agent.

Tickets for the show cost 20 euros and can be purchased at the Teatro das Figuras box office, online through BOL and at FNAC, Worten, El Corte Inglés and CTT points of sale.
