The work on the EN125, between São João da Venda and Patacão, has ended, but it is not yet that the inconvenience for motorists at the entrance to Faro.

The redevelopment of Avenida Dr. Gordinho Moreira, between the Bridges of Marchil and the Forum Algarve, under the Faro Requalifica2, promoted by the Chamber of Faro, is now starting, having received a visa from the Court of Auditors.

This week, Faro it will be invaded by many thousands of motorcyclists participating in yet another Motard Concentration, but the municipality guarantees that, if the works interfere with the event, they will stop.

Source of the Chamber of Faro advanced to Sul Informação that “the works that are taking place now do not require the removal of any road, they are sanitation works. However, if we notice that there are conditionings provoked during the Motard Concentration, we stop the work».

For now, there is no removal of lanes, but “it will end up happening”, not least because the work plan includes the repaving of the road.

However, guarantees the same municipal source, these works “will be done during the night, between midnight and 6:00 am. We want these works to disturb as little as possible, but obviously some inconvenience is to be expected».

The fact that the works are being carried out during the summer, with more drivers on the road, is justified by the City Council because “it had to be done now, we couldn't postpone it. The conclusion of the tender procedure and the set of bureaucracies made the process drag on and either we did the work anyway, or we let it fall. Since this is an important project for the city, we took the first option».

The interventions, which began last week, after the works contract was signed in March, have an execution period of 120 days and will cost around 481 euros + VAT.

The work was awarded to the company “Sociedade Cordivias Engenharia Lda”.

The works include the repaving of the entire carpet, between the Montenegro junction and the BP filling station, as well as the correction of the route, «in order to give the road the characteristics of an urban road, in an attempt to harmonize the coexistence between the motorized vehicles and people'.

To achieve this goal, "the restoration of sidewalks on the north edge and the creation of a pedestrian corridor to the south are contemplated, to facilitate and provide safety for pedestrians".

The Chamber said that "a traffic light will also be installed, which will allow the crossing of the road more safely, in the bridge area".

Another objective of this intervention is to improve drainage, «especially on the south berm, where, when it rains with abundance, there are episodes of flooding on the neighboring properties», concludes the Chamber.
