Comedian Môce dum Cabréste decided to help the Algarve Livre de Petróleo Platform (PALP) raise funds to pay the costs of courts and lawyers in its fight against hydrocarbon exploration in the Algarve. For that, gave your face and voice in the video above.
«To keep the Algarve free of oil, we need your help», says the PALP, when announcing its campaign of Crowdfunding. So far, just over $1000 has been raised, out of the $4.350 set as a goal under this campaign hosted on the website. through crowdfunding Indiegogo.
In April 2017, recalls the PALP, “we filed an injunction to stop the imminent prospecting hole in front of Aljezur. Participate and contribute to this fundraising campaign aimed at covering the costs of courts and lawyers, which could amount to several thousand euros. Your contribution, whatever the amount, will be useful and valuable! Spread the word!»
PALP was created in March 2015 by citizens, environmental associations and other entities, with the aim of encouraging public debate on prospecting, research, development and production of oil and natural gas in Portugal.
The platform sees the future of the Algarve with great apprehension «given the impacts that this activity could have on a region that is very dependent on tourism and the sea and with great biodiversity and unique natural beauty».
"There will be consequences for health, climate change, the quality of life of populations, marine fauna and flora and also tourism", stresses the Platform.
Therefore, PALP has been working to cancel all existing oil exploration contracts. Two have already been canceled on land and official confirmation is awaited on the possible termination of another four, at sea, to the south.
However, stresses the Platform, «the start of prospecting is imminent off the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, so, in addition to the work of awareness and defense developed, on April 27, 2017, we filed an injunction against the Ministry of the Sea and the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services in order to challenge the administrative act that allows the ENI/Galp consortium to proceed with the borehole off that area of the coast».
PALP guarantees: «we will do everything to prevent this attack. And this is where we need help. The costs of courts and lawyers could amount to several thousand euros, being very difficult to bear and, for that reason, we are launching this fundraising campaign».

PALP recalls that “all over the world, ways of using alternative energies are being sought to allow the replacement of fossil fuels, which are responsible for a significant part of global warming and for the destruction of economically fundamental habitats for the human population. . The insistence on the race for new reserves to maintain this type of production is based on an outdated energy model, in any part of the planet».
