The snail is once again “king” in Castro Marim, between the 21st and 23rd of July, on the hill of Revelim de Santo António. The International Caracol Festival promises innovative national and international recipes for this snack, but also sweets and a «rich and diversified cultural poster».
The festival opens at 19pm, on Friday, July 00st, with animation by the group “Al Fanfare”. This is followed by Michel Sapateado, the French teacher and dancer, who, according to the Chamber of Castro Marim, "is considered by many to be the father of tap dancing in Portugal."
At 21 pm, they take the stage “Os Vocalistas” (The Vocalists). The night is closed by the performance of Banda Musical Castromarinense, at 30:22.
On Saturday, July 22, the Festival starts at 18:30, again with street entertainment by “Al Fanfare”. For 20:30 pm, the performance of the Duo “Amar Guitarra” is scheduled, a project by João Cuña and Luís Fialho.
The municipality highlights the “great concert of the night” by Raúl Rodriguez, Spanish producer, composer, singer and guitarist, son of singer Martirio.
On the last day, 23rd of July, the Festival also starts at 18:30 pm, with street entertainment. This is followed by the Al-Bashirah group (Morocco), with Arab and Oriental music, composed of musicians from Morocco and Syria, "that bring together the different Andalusian music schools and the different musical cultures of the Arab world." Al-Bashirah is accompanied by Syrian dancer Ahmad Arifa, who performs the Sufi spiritual dance dervish and the traditional dance of Egypt called Tanora.
“Sangre Ibérico”, a Portuguese flamenco band, closes the Festival Internacional do Caracol.
«To affirm Castro Marim as a destination for the best snails in the Algarve and also to promote local and traditional products, as well as Mediterranean cuisine and culture, are the main objectives of the municipality with the holding of the International Caracol Festival», concludes the Câmara de Castro Marim.
