Olhão will host the final phase of the IV National Basketball Under 14 Championship for Men, from 16 to 18 June. Over five rounds, six teams from different parts of the country will compete for the title of champion in the pavilion of the Ginásio Clube Olhanense.
In this final phase, the under 14 teams of Dragon Force/FCPorto and Maia BC (North Zone), SLBenfica and CD Torres Novas (South Zone), Clube Desportivo Escola Francisco Franco (Madeira) and Clube União Sportiva (Azores) participate. ).
The event, organized by the Algarve Basketball Association (ABA) and the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB), arrives in Olhão following an application submitted by the Algarve council, sponsored by the Olhão Chamber.
"We were chosen over other candidacies to receive this final stage due to the competence demonstrated in previous organizations", illustrated Eduardo Cruz, president of the ABA, noting that "the sponsorship and availability of the municipality were also fundamental for the Federation's decision". About a year ago, Olhão had already hosted the final of the Under 18 Basketball Cup.
The mayor of Olhão António Pina considered, for his part, that the support given to the event «follows the policy of proximity to local initiatives and municipalities».
«The Municipality of Olhão is one of the municipalities that most supports and encourages the practice of sports, and this tournament is a great way to promote it. We cannot neglect the fact that these teams that come from different parts of the continent and islands bring their families with them and this is important for the local business fabric», said the mayor from Farense.
The participating teams all play against each other, with a double shift on the 16th and 17th. On the 18th of the morning, the last game is played, followed by the awards ceremony and the consecration of the National Under 14 Champion. livestream on the FPB portal.
