The built historical heritage of Portimão will be made known on nightly cultural tours. Departures are scheduled for the 14th of July and 11th of August, in Alvor, and for the 28th of July and 18th of August, in the historic center of Portimão, and always start at 21 pm.

In the fishing village, you will discover the Islamic heritage of Alvor, where there are buildings that are about a thousand years old. «The village has three buildings with a centralized plan, currently transformed into small chapels, whose initial function and chronology date back to the Islamic period», according to the City Council of Portimão. We will visit the Morabito de São Pedro, located near the Alvor Cemetery and where the meeting point for the tour is scheduled, the Morabito attached to the Alvor Mother Church and this religious building, the Ethnographic Museum, the Castle and civil architecture .

In the city of Portimão, the outings will take participants “in search of urban landscapes that characterize and give personality to the heart of the city”. The meeting point for the tour is the bandstand at Praça Manuel Teixeira Gomes, from where a path will start that passes through Jardim Bívar, Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Largo 1º de Dezembro, Igreja Matriz, Alameda da Republica and Largo May 1st. The team from the Heritage Office of the municipality will guide this tour.

«There is a municipality in Portimão that everyone knows and another that can only be unveiled by those who walk in, willing to let themselves be challenged by the beauty of each monument, archaeological site, church or museum. It is this “Portimão” that is invited to discover through nightly cultural tours where you can immerse yourself in the centuries to hear the stories that the cultural heritage has to tell. The night cultural tours aim to combine the mild summer temperatures with the addition of seasonal visitors, providing locals and visitors with different cultural experiences through contact with the county's monuments and emblematic spaces», framed the Portimonense City Council, which organizes the tours with the support from the Parish Councils of Portimão and Alvor, ISMAT-Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Alvor.

Registration for the tours is free, but they have a limited number of participants, so they must be made up to one day before the respective tours, through the email [email protected] or the telephone numbers 282470799 and 282480488.
