The gala of the second anniversary of the Algfuturo association took place on the 24th of June, «in a great atmosphere of unity» and with the right to sign a cooperation protocol between that entity and the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg).

Both Rodrigo Teixeira, president of AAUAlg, and José Vitorino, president of Algfuturo, welcomed this cooperation, which aims to promote the «appreciation of students» and their «integration in the life of companies and society, namely through joint reflection on themes relevant to the region, partnerships in initiatives of the parties and connection to the labor market for employment and internships'.

At the beginning of his speech, José Vitorino considered that «due to the presence of a high number of visitors, especially in the summer, a certain idea that the Algarve does not have major problems and is even privileged in relation to others has been consolidating in the country. regions".

But “unfortunately for the Algarve, this idea is wrong and contradicted by official data”. In this regard, the president of Algfuturo expressed his concern for data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on regional development.

In these, the Algarve was, in 2015, the region of NUT II, with the lowest global development index (which aggregates the competitiveness, cohesion and environmental quality indexes).

The data “essentially confirms the positions taken by the Association so far,” says Algfuturo.

In view of this, José Vitorino said that “the way is to work hard in the Algarve, to improve as much as possible, and at the same time, with a great regional partnership, to convince the central power and the European Union that therapies and few funds are available. Community funds have harmed and wronged the region, justifying other policies».

In his speech, José Vitorino also paid tribute to former deputy Cristóvão Norte and businessman Franklin Rosa, leader and founder of Algfuturo, who have since died.

This event was also entitled to a minute of silence for the deaths of the recent fires. The gala, which was presided over by António Correia de Campos, president of the Economic and Social Council (CES), was also attended by Francisco Serra, president of the Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, who took stock of the Community funds from the previous and current framework.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, within the scope of the gala's motto on partnerships, reviewed the current status of the Municipality's cooperation with various entities.

Also participating were deputies from various political parties, other mayors, the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), commanders of the GNR, PSP, Navy, directors of the PJ, the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries from the Algarve, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), from Ambifaro, from Algarve 365, as well as Miguel Freitas, first secretary of AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, and professors from the University of Algarve (UAlg).

These were joined by social partners such as business associations, trade unions, youth, solidarity, health, sports, or associations of foreign owners. The animation was made by the “Va-de-Viró” Group and the João de Deus Dance Club.

This gala had the institutional collaboration of the Dom Francisco Gomes Institute and the City Council of Faro.
