Students from classes C and D of EB1 in Vila do Bispo won the “Fruit Hymns” contest, within the scope of the “Fruit Heroes – Healthy School Snack” project, announced this Tuesday, June 6, that City Council .

The Algarve school is joined by four other educational establishments that were chosen as winners: EB1 Padre Ribeiro de Alforra, from Câmara de Lobos, in Madeira, Kindergarten in Estrebuela, in Paredes, in Porto, EB1 in Venda do Pinheiro , in Mafra, and the Centro Escola de Mouriz, also in Paredes.

Due to this victory, the Auditorium of the Cultural Center of Vila do Bispo will receive, on June 9th, at 14 pm, the “Super Festa dos Heroes da Fruta”, offered by APCOI – Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity as a prize for victory achieved.

The party includes an interactive theater play, in which children's mascots remind children of the main commandments of a “Fruit Hero” through educational games and physical activity promoters.

At the end, all students receive… a piece of fruit, among other surprises. Students will also have the opportunity to present their winning Anthem live.

The initiative, which has the support of the Vila do Bispo City Council, is aimed at this School's students, parents, grandparents and guardians, and aims to reward students for their success.

In this project, the Escola Internacional de Porches, in Lagoa, was awarded an honorable mention.

This year's edition of the project had the participation of more than 53 children from all regions of the country, with 480 Fruit Hymns. public. This vote resulted in a list of 80 finalists.

These 80 videos were then evaluated by a jury composed of several national artists from the music scene (and beyond), ambassadors of this project. Among them are names like Ricardo Carriço, Carlos Vidal, Amor Eletro, Ana Bacalhau, from Deolinda, Vanessa Silva, Anjos, Mário Laginha, or Henrique Feist.

The “Fruit Heroes – Healthy School Snack” project aims to motivate children to adopt the healthy habit of eating fruit daily in the doses recommended by the World Health Organization in order to nutritionally enrich their diet, contributing to the prevention of certain diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and various types of cancer.

The Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity (APCOI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded by a community of volunteers who mobilize around the responsibility of transmitting healthier habits and lifestyles to children, especially those with excess of weight. And it is in this sense that they develop projects such as “Fruit Heroes”.
