The MIM-Movement of Independents of Montenegro will not participate "alone or in coalition, in the next municipal elections scheduled for 1 October 2017". After going to votes in 2005, 2009 and 2013, the movement decided to “fix the gloves”, considering that the mission it proposed to contribute to the improvement and stabilization of the parish's leadership was fulfilled.

The decision was taken unanimously at the last meeting of the movement's leadership, consisting of João Beles, João Amaro, Nuno Grade, Diamantina Gonçalves and Marco Gouveia.

«The Board of MIM considers that, in its genesis and foundational spirit, participation in all electoral moments is not foreseen, but only when the situation of the parish justifies it, that is, when its action appears decisive to change the installed status quo », they considered.

That was the situation in 2005, the year in which what began as a civic movement moved into the political arena, the movement's leadership assures us. In these Municipal Elections, the MIM obtained 499 votes, electing two members to the Parish Assembly, which allowed “to break a cycle of poorly participatory and obsolete management of the territory”.

In 2009 and 2013 the movement was voted on as part of the coalition led by the PSD and «contributed decisively to two victories that allowed us to obtain a majority in the Parish Assembly and, consequently, some tranquility in the executive».

«The Board of MIM makes a positive assessment of these 12 years of active participation in the bodies of the Parish of Montenegro, a period in which the Parish Council was modernized, developed numerous proximity actions with its customers, gaining their trust and respect, and he also managed to fulfill one of his old dreams – to have his own facilities, suitable for the exercise of his competences”, added MIM.

Despite this position, the movement's leaders say there is "no constraint or obstacle that prevents its members, individually, from joining lists of other party forces."
