“O Gajo”, “Carripana”, cinema and opera make 365 Algarve in April

Popular music, fado, folk e rock of the campaniça guitar of “O Gajo”, on the 7th of April, at 18:30 pm, at Hostel 1878, in Faro, the passage of the street theater of “Carripana”, through Vila do Bispo, from 7th to 9th April, or Loulé, from 29th April to 1st May, but also the continuation of the Video Luce and the opera “Dido e Eneas” are some of the proposals of the 365 Algarve for April, “a period in which the destination registers a strong demand for tourists”.

And the month opens with... a Ballroom Gala, by Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, on the 1st (today), at 21 pm, in Ferragudo. This is a show in tones of «formal ball, where you dance or just listen to music», according to 30 Algarve, with themes from the great orchestras of the 365th century, many familiar and known to the general public.

Also scheduled for today is the end of the Vila Real de Santo António International Theater Festival, with “O Filho da Treta by Força Produção”, at 21 pm, at Centro Cultural António Aleixo.

The “Tavira – Heritage and Arts”, an event that combines the religious, architectural and pictorial heritage of the churches of Tavira with the musical heritage of the various periods in which those temples were built, has today a concert at the Ermida de São Sebastião, at 21:30 pm.

Others are joined at the Igreja da Misericórdia, on 8 and 22, at 10 am, whose portal is a masterpiece of the Algarve Renaissance, or at the Igreja do Carmo, on Easter Sunday, the 30th, at 16 pm, home of the most interesting Rococo altarpiece from the Algarve.

The cycle Video Luce it will, on the other hand, continue to shed light on the classics of world cinema shown in the Algarve's churches: “Of Men and of Gods” (of Gods and Men), by Xavier Beauvois, on the 6th, at 21 pm, at the Igreja Matriz in Cabanas de Tavira, “Ato de Primavera” (Rite of Spring), by Manoel de Oliveira, on the 7th, at 21 pm, at the Misericórdia de Faro and "Simon of the Desert" (Simon of the Desert), by Luís Buñuel, on the 22nd, at 16:30 pm, in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Graça, at the Fortaleza de Sagres, in Vila do Bispo.

As for "Carripana" it will also go through Faro on the 22nd and 24th of April.

The opera from the baroque period “Dido e Aeneas” will be back, this time for an exhibition in the auditorium of Vale do Lobo, on the 30th, at 18:30. The story between Dido (Joana Godinho) and Aeneas (Jan van Elsacker), a prince who escaped the destruction of Troy, will be the backdrop.

As to Algarve International Music Festival (FIMA) will also not miss the call in April, with several concerts scheduled.

Namely: “Beethoven”, presented by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul with conductor and soloist Jean-Bernard Pommier, on the 6th, at 21 pm, in the Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve, in Gambelas, in Faro, or “French Modernism: Debussy & Poulenc”, with pianist Constantin Sandu and a wind quintet from the same orchestra, on 8th May, at 21 pm, at the Centro Cultural de Lagos.

These will be joined by the “Brandenburg Concertos”, on the 21st, at 21 pm, at the Igreja do Carmo, in Tavira, “Mozart's Sacred Music”, (on the 00rd), the concerts “Grandes Quartets I and II”, on the 23th , at 27 pm, at the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa, and at 21, at the same time, at the Pedro Ruivo Auditorium, in Faro, and, finally, “Serenades and Symphonies of the Chamber”, on the 30th, at 19 pm, at Igreja da Misericórdia, in Faro. On April 7th it will be time for a new presentation of “Morphosis”, the project by Hugo Alves and João Frade, which takes to the stage at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, in Silves, at 21 pm, to give wings to improvisation on original written themes thinking about the potential of two instruments: the trumpet and the accordion.

To close the 1st Algarve International Piano Festival there will be a piano recital for four hands, with the Austrian Ranko Markovic and the Indian Marialena Fernandes. Make an appointment for: the 8th, at 21 pm, at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

Also this weekend, the Cycle “Guitarras e Património” will feature classical guitar concerts by Verónika Kristófcsák (on the 8th, at 17 pm, at the Convento São José, in Lagoa) and by Paulo Galvão (on the 00th at 9 pm, at the Interpretative Center of Vila do Bispo).

On the 22nd, at 21 pm, at the Igreja Matriz in Portimão, Grupo Coral Ossónoba presents “Cantata Mundi”, a composition based on music by Rodrigo Leão that explores a sound universe of spiritual inspiration through orchestration for the baritone soloist Rui Baeta, but also with organ, string quintet, percussion, mixed and children's choir.

This will be «a color of sounds and feelings that brings together more than 60 performers on stage», according to 365 Algarve.

On World Dance Day (29), there will be “Interferences”, performances resulting from research and choreographic creation workshops with the Portuguese and foreign communities, presented at 19 pm at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, in Tavira.

From the 21st to the 23rd of April arrives at Faro the “Literary Spring” with tours dedicated to discovering the work of the Algarve poet António Ramos Rosa. These tours are «filled with surprises, readings… and flavors of the land».

Visual and performing arts invite a tour by region. To start with, there are four suggested visits in April.

A MALA – Exhibition of Artists of Lagos, a collective exhibition of the latest works by local artists that opens on the 25th at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, and “Retratos na Ria”, the photographic exhibition by Jorge Jubilot, patent until the 30th, are two examples.

These are joined by “Viagem ao Interior”, which exhibits photographs of the other Algarve, from 2nd to 29th April at the Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel, and from 6th April to 10th May at Espaço +, in Aljezur, and the exhibition of José Pedro Croft at the Museum of Faro, which can be visited until May 28th.

“RASTILHO / Physical theater and music show”, which runs from the 14th to the 16th of April, is the proposal of “Lavrar o Mar” if you want to walk along the trails of Aljezur, enjoying its landscapes.

For this month there are also the “DeVir Meetings”, as well as “Alchemy – Cultural Itinerancy” with different programs under the motto of the elements “Earth”, “Water”, “Air”, “Fire”, from April 12th to 14th, with a meeting point at 9:00 am at the Bartolomeu dos Santos workshop , in Tavira, and from April 29th to May 1st, at the same time at the same meeting point.

According to 365 Algarve, the Easter holidays can be «an opportunity to take a break from the daily routine and head south. This is what, by mid-March, more than 36 thousand spectators (45% of whom are foreign nationals) have already done. )'.
