The Farense musical group Galopim will make themselves known tomorrow, April 24, in a concert scheduled for 18:00 in the renovated Rooftop Hotel Eva's bar, in Faro.
The formation, which brings together João Tiago Neto (Melomeno-Rítmica and NOME) and Rui Daniel (Epiphany), “pulled out of the drawer” original songs, which they will present for the first time tomorrow, in a show overlooking the Ria Formosa.
The project emerged in mid-2016, driven by João Tiago, who initially joined the producer Francisco Aragão and later invited Rui Daniel.
The singer and guitarist from Farense started thinking about a new musical challenge in the final stage of NOME and ended up taking advantage of some of the lyrics and songs kept in the drawer.
The decision to follow this path comes in a phase of looking for some tranquility and where it embraces fatherhood. «I thought it would be good to start a project of mine from scratch and invite people I thought could help me and would be an asset», revealed João Tiago Neto to Musical/Sul Informação.
Based on this decision, the songs “shelved” soon come to light and, with the contribution of Francisco Aragão, they receive an electronic touch that “gives them around” and a sound that surprised their author.
João Neto always starts from the melody for the lyrics – the songs appear on guitar or on the piano and it is in the studio that the other instruments are added. «First I create the music, the melodic line of the voice, and then the words begin to emerge and the themes begin to meet with the music», illustrates Galopim's driver. The words that appear and end up composing the letters deal with the “things of life”. The writing is almost autobiographical and inspired by the musician's experiences and situations with which he has been confronted in the last two or three years.
Rui Daniel is a friend and family member of João Tiago Neto, but the invitation only comes after his revelation with the newly formed band Epiphany. Francisco Aragão's lack of time to accompany this project, distributed between the production and recording of bands and playing live with Diogo Piçarra, dictated the formation of the duo and the permanence of the young musician.
At 18, Rui is in charge of programming and the electronic component that marks Galopim's sound, seeing this step as a new stage in his musical learning, but where he brings some of the sounds of a new generation, as a complement to rock.
«My style is capable of being more recent, styles not so well known. I try to combine the three tastes, mine, João and Francisco. It has been very pleasant», reveals Rui Daniel. Interestingly, the root of the three musicians is rock, but each one followed their paths, which are now found in Galopim.
The project is presented tomorrow, in an intimate concert where the themes of the debut EP will be presented (with a well-kept and appealing look), always with a previous framing done by the musicians.
On April 30, Galopim has its first concert at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, in the initiative 24 hours Figures.
